TrustedTrades

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 June 2026

This policy explains how TrustedTrades (“TrustedTrades”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are

TrustedTrades operates the TrustedTrades platform, which connects clients with verified electricians and plumbers in South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information processed through this platform.

2. Information we collect

  • Account details: your name, mobile number, and suburb.
  • Job details: job descriptions, addresses, and scheduling you provide when booking or posting work.
  • Tradesman verification: trade certification or licence documents you upload (stored privately).
  • Reviews and messages: ratings, reviews, and in-platform chat messages.
  • Payment data: processed by our payment provider (PayFast). We do not store your card details.
  • Technical data: limited log data (such as IP address) used to keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

3. Why we process it (purpose)

  • To create and manage your account and verify tradesman identities.
  • To match clients with tradesmen and enable bookings, messaging, and reviews.
  • To process payments securely and hold funds in escrow until a job is confirmed complete.
  • To send you transactional notifications (e.g. one-time sign-in codes and booking updates) by SMS.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse and to comply with our legal obligations.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with trusted operators who help us run the service, under contract:

  • Supabase: database, authentication, and document storage.
  • Vercel: application hosting.
  • PayFast: payment processing.
  • BulkSMS: delivery of SMS one-time codes and notifications.

We do not sell your personal information. Some operators may process data outside South Africa; where they do, we rely on providers that offer comparable data-protection safeguards as required by POPIA.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as required to provide the service, resolve disputes, and meet legal and financial record-keeping obligations. When you request deletion, we remove or anonymise your information except where we are legally required to retain it.

6. How we protect it

Access to your data is restricted by row-level security, certification documents are stored in a private bucket accessible only to authorised staff, sign-in codes are hashed, and all traffic is encrypted over HTTPS.

7. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of your account and data;
  • object to certain processing; and
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

You can export or delete your data at any time from your account settings.

8. Contact / Information Officer

For any privacy request or question, contact our Information Officer at [privacy@yourdomain.co.za].
